Pushing Daisies

RE-VAMPING THE FLORAL INDUSTRY | THESIS 2012

And when it’s all done, you make shortbread cookies with elderberry jam!

Book assembly.

Making wheat paste from scratch, folding 540 (yes, I counted) sheets of paper, sewing 30 books. Fingers hurt, but I enjoy repetitive, comtemplative work.

Post Frenzy

Sorry guys. I cannot explain how sick I am of sitting at this desk…

Staining shelves for the commencement exhibition. :)

I’ve got some sprouts! Some Zinnias and Calendulas came to greet the sun!

GOT MY PROOF TODAY! There were some issues (my pages were out of order, and some miscommunication as to the difference between case binding and saddle stitch), but life is good and books will be made!

Testing my green thumb!

Planted some seeds today in hopes they will bloom in time to put in my “Pushing Daisies” exhibition space. My now fiance (!!) gave me a large collection of seeds that the garden center where he works was going to throw away at the end of the season. I’ve kept them cool and dry, and I hope they pop up this season! They are all from Botanical Interests, a fantastic no-GMO seed company that features beautiful illustrations on each packet! I’d love to hang some of these plants above the display created a gradient of dried flowers (from super dried to the drying), as well as create a fresh arrangement for Art Walk gallery hoppers to enjoy! Since I didn’t have popsicle sticks or proper plant markers, I scrounged the cupboards and found some straws!

I planted:

Snapdragons - the 2ft tall cut-flower kind

Calendula - Pacific Beauty and Zeolights varieties

Delphinium - Butterfly Blend

Rudbeckia - Cherry Brandy

Nasturtium - Merlot

Zinnia - Art Deco, Pastel Sunset, and Summer Soltice varieties
